Once again the Harefield Hospital Jog took place in glorious sunshine, on Sunday, 4th September, and we were there to provide live and continuous coverage of the event. Not so very long ago, heart transplant patients were told to take things easy, but research carried out in Toronto and by our own Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub indicated otherwise, and the Harefield Jog is the result. For us it's a technical challenge which our members rise to every year, and our presenters excel themselves - it's really not easy to keep going for four hours, and they're not even running!

In the picture, our roving reporter Len Kerswill catches up with Robert Craig, Harefield's Director of Governance and Quality.

No, we're not about to sing Hymn Number 43. With less than an hour to go, we're having a Production Meeting, outside as there's no room inside, and hoping that the weather will hold.

Yiljan, presenting her first Jog as Studio Anchor, ready for the off.

Meanwhile down near the Start Line, Steve W (we have several Steves, and quite a fair crop of Simons, but more are always welcome!) is finishing the connections at the OB rack. Sam offers to help, but is 'reallocated' to the sound department.

On air. Our gallery in full swing, with much work done since it was first used last year. We still need to commission our Sound Mixer, and replace our current Network Control (one switch which lights up when we're on air) with our professional Network Mixer, just visible in the bottom left hand corner.

Alan at the temporary sound desk in the old gallery. That pensive expression is well-known, and usually means that the fader he's just opened didn't deliver quite what he expected.

Image
Our Station Manager, Simon Brett, joined us as child labour many moons ago (his dad, Alan, was responsible and is still a member despite this), here seen in from of the videotape (VT) rack. Industry joke; "That picture's terrible." "It's OK at this end."

Image
Sam at the sound desk, whilst Alan's off with his camera. Note the bottle of fruit juice - it gets really, I mean really, hot in there.

Image
Len in fine interviewing form, with Darrin on camera and Russ, who had travelled some distance to be with us, keeping an eye on the cables.

Image
There was more to do at this year's Jog than just run; here Steve N on camera as Jessica interviews an ambulance crew.

Image
As the viewers see us. Yiljan held the whole show together for over three hours.

Image
It's all over for another year, and not all glamour for our presenters as Len helps Chris to coil up the thick cables which linked the OB to the studio.

A final image, of our Vision Mixer so ably driven by Alison, represents all those not seen here without  whom we simply don't have a programme. The champagne, provided by our thoughtful Director (who shall remain nameless to spare his blushes) gives a good indication of the warm welcome you'll find if you decide to come along.
